Gallery 297 is “Seeing White” from January 8 – February 15, 2008. Exhibit juror, Shawn Kenney – illustrator, designer, art director, and co-founded of Will Paint for Food (a project that supports hunger relief through the sale of his food-themed paintings) has selected a varied range of artwork dealing with the word “white.” Anything to do with “white” – from a dot of white on a canvas or in a photograph to the word “white” used in the title.
The public is cordially invited to the opening reception on Sunday, January 13th from 1-3 pm for light refreshments and the opportunity to meet and talk with the exhibiting artists about his or her artwork.

The Art League of Rhode Island (ALRI) will kick off the New Year with their first Special Exhibit of 2008 at the Rhode Island Watercolor Society. Pawtucket, RI. The exhibit will open with a reception on Sunday, January 6, 2008 from 1 – 4 p.m. and will be on view throughout the month. ¿Quienes son Voces de Los Andes?
El Grupo “Voces de los Andes” surgió recientemente durante el verano
del 2005; los musicos se reunieron para mantener vivas
sus tradiciones, fe y cultura.
El Grupo “Voces de Los Andes” está compuestos por talentosos jóvenes
y niños multifacéticos que representan una gran gama cultural desde
Argentina, Bolivia hasta los Estados Unidos.
El grupo está dirijido por Silvio Cuéllar quien nació en Córdoba
Argentina y se crió en Bolivia; representa al grupo y toca guitarra, zampoña,
charango, piano y canta. Alex de tan solo 14 años, es el hijo mayor de
Silvio y toca la zampoña, flauta dulce, quena, piano y percusión. Emily de
tan solo 12 años es la percusionista de grupo.
Voces de los Andes también cuenta con un número de amigos y músicos
invitados como leonardito A. (Charango y voz), Pablo J. (bombo y
zampoñas), Víctor Ampuero (Guitarra y quena); Alex Ottich (voz y batería);
Luís Asfura (guitarra), Jazmín Zamberlan (voz) e Iris Corporan (voz) entre
otros.
Silvio Cuéllar, director musical del grupo dijo que Voces de los Andes
está disponible para conciertos, cenas de gala, y eventos culturales.
The Andean musical ensemble “Voices of the Andes” recently released its latest CD

The group also has two upcoming concerts: on December 21, they will be appearing at Saint Mary’s Star of the Sea in New London, CT, at 7:30pm, and on Saturday, December 22nd., the group is at La Salette in Attleboro, Massachussets, at 8pm.
The group is under the direction of Silvio Cuellar, a native of Argentina who was raised in Bolivia. Silvio plays the guitar, the zampona, the charango, the piano and sings. He served as a master/teacher for the Rhode Island Arts Council’s Folk/Traditional Arts Program.
Attendance is free, donations are gratefully accepted.

The Providence Public Library has announced a new adult program
series beginning this spring at Central Library. The PPL Visual
Literacy Slideshow Series will provide a forum for exhibiting and non-
exhibiting artists to present their work to the larger community in a
public setting, according to Program Coordinator Lisa Miller. The
series will run on the third Thursday of each month, March through
December 2008. The Library will be a stop on the 2008 Gallery Night
Providence tour.
Applications are now being accepted from exhibiting and other
presenters/artists, designers and artisans, teachers, and students in
the community. Applicants do not have to be associated with a gallery
or institution to qualify for inclusion. Applicants should be
interested in presenting their work in terms other than purely
technical. To apply, artists should mail or email a letter of
interest, a short bio, and a brief description of their work.
Selection will be based on the merits of the work, and on its
potential to stimulate a discussion within our community. The
deadline is January 31, 2008. Complete information is available on
the Library Web site. Artists will be contacted by February 11, 2008
if they have been selected. Questions may be directed to:

Mill River Players, a professional team will be hosting an exciting 8-week Musical Theater Workshop.Chuck PetitBon, Artistic Director has announced the plans for this new program with Mill River Players, 499 High St., Central Falls, RI. He will be working towards a performance showcasing the talents of your children. Chuck has been Artistic Director at Mill River for the past 12 years with experience in both musical and dramatic stage coaching. Along with Dan Zabinski who will lend his talent as the music director of the classes. Dan is a graduate of Boston University with a Bachelor of Music Degree and from Rhode Island College with a Master of Arts & Teaching. He is a retired music teacher having taught in Cumberland for 35 years. Joining Chuck and Dan is Janet Lynne O’Hare, a graduate of Emerson College with her Master’s in Theatre Education and an undergraduate degree in Musical Theatre performance. Janet has toured with the Missoula Children’s Theatre for over five years working with children ages 5-18 as an actor and director. Additionally, Janet has offered “Acting for Musical Theatre” in the Boston area two years in a row, due to it growing popularity.We invite you to join us for this wonderful program. Whether your child is new to the theatre or a veteran to the stage, this class caters to all the needs of those wanting to perform as an actor of Musical Theatre. The team of instructors is committed to giving individual attention to each young actor, so sign up today since class size is limited.

Dec. 18, 2007 The Newport Art Museum in association with The Newport Showhouse Guild is having a Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 30th. The community is invited to come to the Museum and meet the designers of the Holiday Tabletops currently on display at the Museum and learn more about the 2008 Showhouse.
The Newport Art Museum has brought designer flair to the holidays with its new Holiday Tables by the Newport Showhouse Guild. The fabulously designed tables will be on display throughout the holiday season, until Jan. 2, 2008, and they fill the galleries with a festive atmosphere.
The December 30th Holiday Open House will be held from 1-4 p.m. A $10 donation to the Museum is suggested. The response to the tables has been so positive that the Newport Art Museum plans on making them an annual event.
