Three of Each & Two and Two: Meredith Wildes Cornell & Terry Haffenreffer Shapiro
Two Little Compton artists team up for an upcoming exhibition at the Providence Art Club. While Meredith Cornell, long time member of the Art Club, will include a recent body of work consisting of oil portraits and still lifes, Terry Haffenreffer Shapiro captures her surrounding East Bay landscape through oil painting and pastels. Cornell utilizes repetition throughout this group of work. Each subject whether a figure or floral scene, are presented in three different approaches. Cornell depicts the beauty of life through a confident expressive style and beautiful dept of color. Shapiro has interpreted this same technique of repetition in pairs rather than triplets. Her seascapes and landscapes not only illustrate the beauty of the familiar RI terrain but also record recent trips to Prince Edward Island in Canada. These landscapes focus on the changing seasons as it affects the light and environment. Shapiro is a RISD graduate and also a founding member of the Sakonnet Artists Cooperative. Cornell holds a degree from the Swain School of Art of New Bedford MA. Both artists are current members of the Westport Art Group.
