CALLING ARTISTS OF EVERY MEDIUM for V Day Rhode Island
June 2007 – V-Day:Until The Violence Stops: RHODE ISLAND
A two-week festival of events bringing awareness of the violence against women & girlsWe are looking for artists of all kinds – actors, painters, dancers, spoken word – to get involved in re-creating a festival that was held in NYC last June – right here in RI. (www.untiltheviolencestops.org).Spearheaded by Eve Ensler and V-Day, this festival created more than 70 events around New York City that highlighted artists of all kinds, each one asking their community to end the violence that happens to women and girls in their city. It featured an original theatrical work of monologues writting by 25 world famous authors, read by more than 30 world famous actors; a reading of Eve Ensler’s play “Necessary Targets” by Jane Fonda & Kathy Bates; a 5K run through Central Park; a productions of “Words From Prison”, writings by women incarcerated in New York; and a spoken word event in Brooklyn. Our goal is to create events that encourage our communities in RI to bring an end to violence against women & girls. We’ll do this by creating both fundraisers and events that are free and open to the public – such as theatrical events, gallery nights, spoken word, self-defense classes, 5K runs – to bring information and awareness to our state on how to end the violence. How can you help? We need your input! Please consider getting involved – by donating your time, your talents, your energy & your passion! We will be holding an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 13th at 6:30PM at the Warwick Public Library at 600 Sandy Lane (401-739-5440 for directions) – so that you can learn more about how to get involved. We want to make this a festival to remember and we want you to be a part of it! Join us! Please contact Nancy Rafi, Rafi Productions for more information at 401-714-2388.
