This free play reading enhances Trinity Rep’s current production of Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov, playing now through October 22. In Go Away, Go Away we meet a modern Russian family suffering some of the same eternal troubles as Chekhov’s characters– lack of money, love and a sense of belonging in a changing world. The Moscow Times praised playwright Nikolai Kolyada’s ability to write plays that “get inside the heads of common people and illuminate their hopes and despair.”
Nikolai Kolyada (playwright) has been hailed by critics and journalists as one of the most popular and influential contemporary playwrights in Russia. His resume boasts over 90 plays, many of which have been staged across the globe. His best known work, Murlin Murlo, was one of the longest-running shows in Moscow. He is the founder and artistic director of the Kolyada Theater, and editor-in-chief of the Ural literary journal.
