Downtown National Register Historic District Information Meeting Nov. 1 ..The Pawtucket Department of Planning and redevelopment is holding a public information meeting on the proposed Downtown Pawtucket National RegisterHistoric District at the Blackstone Valley Visitors Center Theater, 175 Main Street, Pawtucket, Wednesday, November 1st at 7:00 p.m. The proposed National Register Historic District is a GOOD thing and will qualify property owners for tax credit financial incentives to restore their buildings. The proposed district is NOT a Local Historic District–National Register listing DOES NOT place restrictions on what an owner can do with their property! If you are a downtown property owner or simply interested in the National Register program or fixing up downtown, please come to the meeting. Representatives from the Pawtucket Department of Planning and Redevelopment and the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission will be there to answer your questions. Looking for Volunteer Voice TeachersThe Jacqueline M. Walsh School for the Performing and Visual Arts in the historic Armory Arts Center in Pawtucket is in its second year with sixty talented high school students following their passion to become artists. Music, dance, theater, drawing, painting, sculpture and ceramics, coupled with standard high school fare such as math, science, English, history, and languages, make up a very long day. But these students hunger for and need more. Several female vocal arts students need vocal coaching outside of the normal school day but they cannot afford private lessons. They need to work on proper technique and repertoire with a vocal mentor who will help them prepare for college and beyond. You could be that mentor. If you have the credentials and can spare one hour per week, either at the school or in your studio or home, working with one of these talented students you could help to create an artist and make a new friend.
