Art Opening 7-9pm | Live Performances 9-10pm | Music & Party 10-2am

Ron Wexler Studio, 50 Weybosset Street, Providence, RI 02903

The highly anticipated third episode of Straight Mixed Culture will not be in theaters, but in downtown Providence the first friday in June. Featuring the area’s best visual art, live performance and after hours foray. The opening and party, spawned from the “golden years” of the Monohasset Mills project, has shifted gears and will take place in the heart of the Renaissance city just behind “The Arcade” on Weybosset Street, in Ron Wexler’s photography studio. The 3500 + square foot space will be showing new works from 8 diverse visual artists. These works include sculpture, painting, photography and mixed media.

This years event will consist of work from long time SMC artists like Sidney Tillet, Christine Hajiar, Stephanie Ewans and Christian Corerra and add first timers Shane Flox, Simone Spruce (AS220 Resident), Gillian Christy and Ron Wexler. Add to the mix the spoken word poetry of Christopher Johnson (AS220 Resident), Brent Hudson and Marlon Carey – then douse with a generous portion of funk-on-down-town performed by WATERBED (house band Sat. night at the Black Repertory Theatre) and we have a recipe for an eclectic, wonderful show.

There will be complimentary beverages and hors’ douvrers and a $5 suggested donation. MEGS-ONE will be in the mix after 10pm spinning hip-hop, soul and R&B forthe after-hours crowd.
