Friday, March 30, 5 to 7pm: SALON – Deborah Obalil, Executive Director of the Alliance of Artists Communities, on creating and maintaining places where artists can take risks, test ideas, and create new work. Tuesday, April 3, noon: Douglas Parker on his biography, Ogden Nash: The Life and Work of America’s Laureate of Light Verse. Parker highlights Nash’s roles as screenwriter, lyricist, performer, and provocative versifier. Bring a brown bag lunch! Presented with the Cornell Club of RI. Free and open to the public!
Tuesday, April 3, 5:30 to 7pm: New Members’ Reception. Tour the building and collections; meet other members and staff! For new Athenaeum members and their guests.
Friday, April 6, 5 to 7pm: SALON – Poetry Aloud! Last fall we had a last-minute change in our salon schedule, and ended up without a presenter one Friday evening. Looking around for a substitute, we turned to the books on our very own shelves… and devoted the evening to reading favorite poems aloud. By the time we were half-way through the evening, attendees were asking when we would schedule the next such opportunity. So here it is! Bring a poem you love, find a new or old one here (our well-stocked poetry shelves just happen to be in the Reading Room, where we gather for salons), recite one from memory, make one up on the spot, or just enjoy the variety of those read by others! For Athenaeum members and their guests. (Sponsored by Antiques and Interiors, http://www.antiquesandinteriors.biz)
