Indian Classical Music at Blackstone River Theatre

Raagmaala cordially invites you to a very unique concert of Indian Classical Music. Please pass this information to your friends and families. Master of Sarangi Pundit Ramesh Misra in concert with Tabla player Shri Nitin Mitta. This concert is partially funded by the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts.

Pundit Ramesh Misra is a phenomenon in the field of Indian classical music. Mastering over one of the most difficult and unique string instruments ‘Sarengi’, Ramesh Misra is acclaimed as an outstanding musician of India. Ramesh ji started his initial intensive training at a very tender age with his father Pt. Ramnath Misra and later with Pt. Hanuman Prasad Mishra and Pt. Gopal Mishra (his uncles). Presently he seeks guidence from Pandit Ravi Sankar. Ramesh ji represents the 21st generation of a family of musicians from Banaras. His high aesthetic sense and artistic sensibilities along with his inner soft nature have brought him recognition both at home and abroad as an eminent soloist as well as an adept accompanist. Ramesh ji is a very high-ranking and a gifted artist, whose music takes the audience to a divine world, a world of pure music. He can be heard in many music productions, including his solo albums and Ravi Shankar’s ‘Inside the Kremlin’ and the Grammy nominated album ‘Legacy’ produced by the legendary Ali Akbar Khan.

Nitin Mitta is an accomplished Tabla (North Indian drums) performer. He has accompanied many eminent Indian musicians such as Pt. Jasraj, Dr. Prabha Atrey, Dr.Veena Sahasrabuddhe, Pt. Buddhaditya Mukherjee and Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt. He is known for his sensitive and creative accompaniment and his solo performances are always refreshing. Nitin recently received a RISCA (Rhode State Council on the Arts) grant. He has performed in “Soul Strings” by Music Today.

Directions to Blackstone River Theatre:
Attleboro/Providence: Take Rt. 95 N to Mass. Exit 2B (Rte. 1A N). Follow Rte. 1A N 1.3 miles to light at intersection of Rtes. 1A &123. Take LEFT onto Rte.123 W. Go straight through next light and follow Rte. 123 W for 2.2 miles. Go straight through light at the intersection of Rte. 123 and Rte. 114. At next light (“T” intersection with large Ann & Hope sign) take a RIGHT onto Broad Street. Continue 2/10 miles. At the second light take a RIGHT in the Theatre parking lot.

From points West or Providence: Take exit 23 for Rte. 146 N. Take exit for Breakneck Hill Road (123). Take 123 east. Go 3.1 mile on 123 east. Follow 123 east till a “T” junction (CVS is in front). This is 114 /Broad Street. Take a LEFT onto Broad Street (114 N). At the third light take a RIGHT into the theatre parking lot.

From Boston and Points North: Take Rte. 95 S to Rte. 295 S. Take LEFT off Cumberland exit 11 (Rte. 114, Diamond Hill Road). Follow Rte. 114 S for about 2.5 miles; across from Valley Falls Fire Station, follow sign for Rte.114 S and take a RIGHT onto Blackstone Street. Follow to bottom of the hill, and then take a LEFT on Broad Street and a LEFT into Theatre parking lot. The theatre is the first building on your left.
