Pawtucket Kicks Off 2007 Riverfront Concert Series

Eight Concerts Feature a Wide Variety of Music Venues

Pawtucket—The Pawtucket Riverfront Commission announces the kick off of its 2007 Riverfront Concert Series.  Every Sunday, beginning July 8th until August 26th, a diverse style of music, from Rhythm & Blues, Swing, Polka, Country and Oldies, can be heard from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial Amphitheater located next to Pawtucket City Hall on Roosevelt Avenue.  Admission is free.

At the first concert scheduled for Sunday, July 8th, Plainfolk comes to downtown Pawtucket singing folk songs that tell the stories of New England and well beyond.  Twenty-seven years later they are still together writing and recording folk music in a traditional style.  During that time they went from the local pubs and clubs to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC and on into cyberspace.  That’s a long way.  But the instruments are still good; the harmonies still sweet and the voices still honest.  Band members include Charlie Ball, Dennis Costello, John Costello, Dave Poland, Tom Porzuc, and Barry Sullivan. As ever, it is music for its own sake and it’s still great fun.

“I am pleased to see the artistic activities flourishing throughout the City of Pawtucket,” stated Mayor James E. Doyle.  “Where else but Pawtucket can music lovers from our community and all over the state come to listen to a wide variety of musical venues this Summer for free,” added Mayor Doyle.

Additionally, Arthur Medeiros Swing Band will be performing every Tuesday beginning July 31st through August 7th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial Amphitheater.  Please join his band for 6 performances throughout the summer on Tuesday evenings.
Mayor Doyle noted that musical programming continues well into September with the Pawtucket Arts Festival from August 25th to September 16th.
