Chairs For Charity in Wakefield Village
Ladies and Gentlemen, Get Your Chairs Ready! On Sunday, June 24, the Third Annual Chairs for Charity will be held at a Block Party 4-8PM on Main Street in Historic Wakefield Village. The recipient of this year’s fundraiser is the South Kingstown Land Trust. On June 10 at 2:00 PM, the Land Trust will hold a reception displaying all of the chairs at their barn on Matunuck Beach Road. The reception is free and open to the public.
Chairs for Charity features #1 Decorating a chair and entering to win prizes, #2 Voting for your favorite Chair, #3 Playing a game of Musical Chairs, and #4 Auctioning the decorated chairs. Anyone may participate in any or all of the four parts of the event. There are lots of great prizes. Just attend the event and buy a raffle ticket and you may win prizes.
Register ASAP! “We suggest that you get your friends or community group involved with a “Chairs for Charity Decorating Party,” urged Judith Ross- McNab, coordinator for the Friends of Wakefield Village. Then
you can promote your group when your chair is displayed and vote for your group’s chair to win the grand prize.”
Choose any theme – your family, business, organization, favorite charity, hobby, favorite thing about Wakefield, and decorate your chair with paint, paper, metal, plant materials or whatever. You will need to give your chair a name. Your chair may win one of the prizes.”
Decorated chairs may be dropped at 344 Main Street between June 4-8. Call for arrangements. June 10 at 2 PM, everyone is invited to a free reception at the South Kingstown Land Trust on Matunuck Beach Road. All the chairs will be on display at that time and voting for a favorite chair will begin. . On June 11, the chairs will be moved to the windows of shops on Main Street in Wakefield Village.
The chairs will be placed on display in the village and votes will be cast by placing one-dollar bills in the box beside each chair. The chair with the most votes wins a prize. There are also prizes for chairs selected by a panel of judges.
The culmination of all these activities is on June 24, 4 PM – 8 PM with a Block Party.
After the game, all of the chairs will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
