Over time, artists have used the genres of still life and tableaux to examine perception, icono-graphy, decoration, and to display their technical virtuosity. Many artists today are quoting the lushness and abundance of Dutch still life, as well as Baroque and Rococo modes of
decorative exuberance.
Cornucopia is a national juried exhibition based on the observation of a variety of interpreta-tions on still life and tableaux emerging in the work of contemporary artists. We aim to select a broad array of work that will illustrate theoretical and practical explorations of the theme.
Application should include no more than three clearly labeled (name, title, media, size, date) 35mm slides of work created since 2003, resume, a brief artist’s statement, $20 application fee, completed application form, and SASE for return of slides. Postmarked deadline April 1, 2005. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Due to technical issues, we are unable to consider video or other time-based media meant to be viewed on a screen or monitor.
