*Last night a group of dedicated volunteer actors gathered at the theatre to give voice and breath to the plays written in David Eliet’s Advanced Playwriting class, Spring Session. The moment that new American plays are born is an exciting one, and as a Research & Development theatre, Perishable prides itself on incubating both the work and the artists who make it. You can share the magic this summer by signing on for David Eliet’s summer session class- The Playwright’s Challenge. Over four weeks, David will assign a specific theme, setting, situation, or cast of characters and your challenge is to write a ten-minute play based on those parameters. This is a great way to break into playwriting OR get “in shape” to enter the multitude of short-play festivals.

For more detailed information go to http://www.perishable.org/class.htm and click on Quarterly classes. While at our website, check out the rest of our summer brochure of happening classes! Then call or e-mail Amy Budd, Theatre Arts School Director at 401-331-2695 x 102 or classes@perishable.org to register. Registration fees are waived for returning students and for members of Perishable Theatre.*Wanna be a member? Wanna be a member? Perishable Theatre is now offering memberships for the 2007-2008 season. Membership is a great way to stay in the know about all the happenings at Perishable and all our Resident Artists. Members give Perishable a tax-deductible gift in an amount of at least $75 and reap the benefits all year long! $10 tickets to our world-premiere productions and exciting presentations, discounts on our rush hour, quarterly and professional development classes, and “back-stage” access to 10 performances-in-progress through the Resident Artist at Perishable Theatre (RAPT) program. We will welcome you to your first show of the season free as well as make sure that we trumpet you to the masses. All in all, a great way to make sure that you don’t miss a single thing in our next season! Details at http://www.perishable.org/donate.htm *Thank you for Goodsearching to make Perishable a little more money so we can bring you exciting theatre year-round! Last week we needed to raise $6 to finish the fiscal year off at a round $100 in Good Searches, and we’ve raised $1.50 toward that goal. Just 150 searches per day through June 30 will get us there, friends. Please go online, log onto www.goodsearch.com (if you haven’t already made it your homepage) and search something that you would otherwise use another less philanthropic search engine to find, and revel in your increased knowledge and your super power as Penny Person, raising Perishable Theatre money, a penny at a time! Don’t forget to designate Perishable Theatre as your charity of choice!*In fact, use Goodsearch.com to find out more about the Providence Improv Fest IV! Put together by supported company Improv Jones, PiF4 promises to give you your summer Improv fix! From Wednesday June 27 through Sunday July 1, over 30 improv troupes from all over the US and Canada will converge in Providence’s theatre district to entertain and wow you. Some of my personal favorites, including our own Improv Jones, are Code Duello, who reenact the mortal duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr, then go back in time to reconstruct the events leading up to the fight, and The Neo-Futurists, whose landmark show Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind offers up 30 plays in 60 minutes. If they sell out, they order out. Big fun. The fest is also offering classes for free and for modest stipends so you can polish your own improv skills. all the info can be had at

www.providenceimprovfest.com, but you’ll enjoy the information more if you Goodsearch it. Enjoy,Vanessa Gilbert
