Providence Latin-American Film Festival announces winners of the Festival poster competition!
In celebration of the Providence Latin American Film Festival’s 15th Anniversary, the festival’s Executive Director, José Torrealba, initiated the first ever PLAFF Poster Image Competition. It was exciting to see the caliber and diversity of the artwork submitted for the competition. The selection of the winning poster took place on Thursday, July 19th, 2007.
The Festival is now proud to announce the winner of the Poster Competition for the Providence Latin American Film Festival. Finalists were chosen through a preliminary selection; the competing posters were displayed at FIREHOUSE 13 (www.firehouse13.org). Team members, friends of the festival, and poster artists enjoyed a cocktail party, while leisurely viewing all the works and making their choice for this year’s Festival poster.
Attendants enjoyed the delicious hors d’oeuvres provided by Ada’s Creations Inc. from Broad Street. Red and white wine was provided by the festival and the beer by our generous sponsor Narragansett Brewery.
The winner was selected by attendants through a secret ballot during the opening. Poster winners were announced at the end of the evening. Alicia Preza was selected as second runner-up for her work titled “In Morpheus’ Arms”. First runner up was Rafael H. Cuello for his colorful dancer, evocative of El Carnaval de Barranquilla. The winning poster was by artist Angel Luís Quiñonez, for his work depicting a fiesta-like ambiance in the Providence City Centre.
José Torrealba thanked the winning artists for their participation in a very competitive event. He stated that he considered all participants as winners since all the posters were excellent and competitive.
