The Rhode Island International Film Festival needs community ambassadors for its Annual Festival, August 9-14, 2005
Every year, the Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) hosts hundreds of filmmakers from around the world: Italy, Spain, England, Germany, The Netherlands, Scotland, France, Australia, China, Japan, India, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Canada, Thailand, Russia, the Czech and Slovak Republics, and Israel (and of course from throughout the United States). In August of 2004 during the main Festival, more than 230 filmmakers, directors, crew and cast members registered with the festival. Hosts are needed once again in this year to provide rooms for attending filmmakers. For participating hosts, the Festival will provide passes for the Rhode Island International Film Festival and upcoming special events. “Most of the filmmakers who visit our state for any of the festivals we present are just beginning their career path. Many will come to the United States or our state for the first time when their film premieres at RIIFF” says RIIFF Executive Director and founder, George T. Marshall. “In order to show friendship and true American hospitality, we have found that area hosts make for the best ambassadors. Indeed, our experience this summer was such a success for everyone involved. Many hosts have made long-term friendships and have been invited to visit the filmmakers they hosted. At the time when international relations continue to be at a critical point, it is our belief that the best way to spur understanding is to communicate and share our culture with artists from other lands.”
