Do something Good! Search for Perishable.

In order to continue to bring the public cutting–edge shows, lively classes, and accessible performance space, Perishable needs the public, i.e. YOU, to do something for us. Use Goodsearch.com! By using the search engine Goodsearch.com and designating Perishable Theater (yes, our IRS name is slightly different than our public name) as your charity of choice, you can make Perishable pennies a day! It is easy. Just go to www.goodsearch.com and follow the directions to choose and verify a charity, and go to town! You can track how those pennies add up which will mean that your neighborhood experimental theatre can keep our prices low!!! Make things easier on yourself and install Goodsearch into your toolbar so you can access it anytime you want to search without having to pull up the website!——-Class feature of the Week: Puppetry for Adults

Wednesdays, Sept. 26-Nov. 14. 6:30-9:00 PM taught by Carl P. Weiting

Can you really see the soul of an old lady in a tomato? What is the 4,084th use for felt and a coat hanger? This exciting class will answer these questions and more as you learn to create and manipulate puppets in several styles: marionettes, toy theatre, rod puppets, and found objects. Historical discussions will inspire you and remind you that puppets aren’t just for kids! Finally, Carl will guide you as you create an original solo or collaborative show. Students will have the opportunity to present at Blood from a Turnip (BfaT), RI’s Only Late Night Puppet Salon.

Sound fun? This class and all our quarterly classes are online now at www.perishable.org/class.htm Quarterly classes will begin the week of September 17th, so act now!If you have any questions about the Perishable Theatre Arts School curriculum, give a ring to Amy Lynn Budd, Theatre Arts School Director at 401-331-2695 ext. 102.——-

What’s in the Perishable Theatre space this weekend?

You may ask. Well some theatre artists have determined to labor this Labor Day weekend and present Sam Shepard’s play True West. A collaborative of graduates of URI, RIC and current Brown/Trinity Consortium student will present the play about ill-fated brothers in the Perishable Theatre space at 95 Empire Street. Shows are Thursday August 30-Saturday September 1 at 7:30pm and Sunday Sept. 2 at 2pm. They haven’t given us any information about how to reserve seats, so we are guessing that it is first come, first serve.

$5 suggested donation at the door.

Thanks for reading Perishable Events, the weekly newsletter detailing what is happening at Perishable, RI’s research & development theatre.

all the best,
