“The Jamestown Bridge, 1940-2007 – From Concept To Demolition” – through Sept. 2
…..The “Old” Jamestown Bridge spanned the West Passage between Jamestown and North Kingstown, Rhode Island from 1940 to 2007. This  RIDOT exhibit chronicles the construction, demolition, removal, and recycling process of this Narragansett Bay Icon through history, photography and artifacts. Show runs until September 2. Pawtucket Arts Festival 2007 – Volunteers Meeting – Wednesday, Sept. 5 – 6pm
…..this will be a festival to remember!  Our first-time ever! – “Taste of Pawtucket” with over 18 local restaurants participating at our opening gala.   We are looking for volunteers to especially help with opening gala night – on Friday, September 7 – 6:00pm-10: 30 – setup/cleanup/door attendees, etc.   Other help throughout the festival will be needed.  “What’s in it for me??” you ask.  A free Pawtucket Arts Festival 2007 T- Shirt, of course!!   This will be a fun night.  Any amount of time you can give will be greatly appreciated.  Our next meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 5 – 6pm at Blackstone Valley Visitor Center Theatre, 175 Main Street or Contact Diane Agostini at #724-5200 for more info or to sign up.

ARTS GRANT WORKSHOPS ANNOUNCED – September 5 & 6, 2007
…..The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts will hold a series of workshops in East Providence and South County for individual artists, non-profit organizations and schools interested in submitting grant applications for the Council’s Monday, October 1 application deadline. Grant workshops are free and open to the public. Arts Council staff will be present to review current grant guidelines, and will be available to provide information and assistance to those interested in applying for support. Workshops in East Providence and West Kingston – The East Providence workshop will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the new offices of the Rhode Island Philharmonic and Music School, located at 667 Waterman Avenue in East Providence, Rhode Island. The South County workshop will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2007 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Courthouse Center for the Arts in West Kingston, located on Rt. 138 in the historic Washington County Courthouse. The Arts Council’s October 1 deadline offers opportunities for the support of individual artists, arts organizations, educational and non-profit organizations under the “Project Grants” category, which supports arts projects and arts in education projects.  October 1 is also the deadline for grants to individuals in our Fellowship Program. At this deadline applications will be accepted from individual creative artists working in the disciplines of: Choreography, Design, Drawing & Printmaking, Music Composition, New Genres, Painting.  Workshops are Free and Accessible – There is no charge for this workshop. Grant guidelines, application forms, and further information may be obtained online on the Council’s web site (http://www.arts.ri.gov/). All workshops are accessible for people with disabilities. If you need special accommodations, please contact the State Arts Council at least 48 hours in advance. The Gamm Theatre presents “Elephant Man” – September 5 – 7pm – free performance
…..172 Exchange Street, Pawtucket – 7pm; seating is limited!! Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre presents “The Elephant Man” – a Special Sneak Preview for Pawtucket Arts Festival at the company’s first play of the 23rd Anniversary Season, Bernard Pomerance’s Tony Award-winning play.   The Gamm Theatre will offer all seats for that evening to be distributed on the day of the play, on a first come, first serve basis. Seats will become available for pick up starting at noon, at the following locations: The Pawtucket Library, City Hall, the Mayor’s office, The Blackstone Valley Visitors Center and the Gamm Theatre.
Interested patrons may line up ahead to be sure to get in.

Pawtucket Arts Festival 2007 – Opening Night Gala – Sept. 7th – The Gnomes & CJ Chenier & The Red-Hot Louisiana Band – 6-10:30pm
…..Honorary Chairs of the Pawtucket Arts Festival, State Representative Peter Kilmartin and wife Kristine, invite you to the 9th Annual Pawtucket Arts Festival opening gala the “Taste of Pawtucket” on Friday, September 7th from 6-8pm on the grounds of the beautiful Slater Mill Historic Site, 67 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket.    “Taste of Pawtucket” will feature food, deserts and assorted samplings from over 18 of Pawtucket’s finest restaurants, with restaurateurs & staff on-site serving some of their favorite dishes. In addition to this exquisite feast, local Celtic musicians “The Gnomes” will add to the ambiance of the evening along the Blackstone River.  After 8pm, food vendors will be available selling food.  From 7:30-10:30pm, straight from Louisiana, we ‘kick it up a notch’ as Pawtucket welcomes the son of the “King of Zydeco” -  C.J. Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band.  Dancing and dining will be under the big tent, complete with dance floor.  Bring your dancing shoes, for a Zydeco and Cajun dance instructor will be available for anyone wishing to join in the fun.  In addition to a great buffet, music and dancing… Coastal New England Wines, consisting of 5 of Rhode Island’s top vineyards, along with Town Wine & Spirit will be providing local wines and beverages, with beer provided by McLaughlin/Moran for $3.00 a drink.    Hope Artiste Village, The Providence Phoenix  & the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts are proud sponsors of this opening festival event.    All this for only $10.00 per person, children under 6 free. “Artists without Studios” – Saturday, Sept. 8 – 10-5pm – The Grant at 250 Main St.
…..Toni Carroll (Flying Shuttles Art and Weaving Studio), Josie Morway (Limen Creatives), and Joanne Luongo (Paper Girls Studio and Art Gallery) have teamed up to bring the Pawtucket Arts Festival into The Grant on Saturday, September 8th.  The Grant will host “Artists without Studios”, which is a collection of artists who work from their homes.  These artists will showcase their work in the building.  The Paper Girls Studio and Art Gallery will host “Girls at the Grant”, an art exhibition that will feature the women artists that work within the building.  There will be performance artists, Kafe Lila is hosting an art and craft exhibition, Flying Shuttles Weaving and Art Studio will open its studio doors and give weaving demonstrations, Beat Box Studio is spinning records, and various studios and businesses will open their doors to the public for the day.  Lastly, “Hands on the Grant” is a collaborative project that seeks to involve the visitors to the city in building an art installation on the facade of The Grant building. The events are running from 10am-5pm and are free and open to everyone. The Grant at 250 is an artist/designer collaborative in the heart of the downtown Pawtucket’s art district.  The building was built at the turn of the last century and housed the W.T. Grant’s Department store.

JUMP! and Cadence Collaborative Performing together on Sunday, September 9- 4-6pm

…..On Sunday, September 9 from 4-6pm, the Pawtucket Arts Festival presents two nationally recognized ballet troupes on one stage in the grand hall of the Pawtucket Armory, 172 Exchange Street, Pawtucket.  This event is free and open to the public.   At 4pm, Pawtucket will welcome JUMP! This is not your typical dance company, but a unique group of dancers specializing in dance-theater that combines ballet technique, modern dance, exciting sets, original music and acting. Artistic Director Mary Paula Hunter collaborates with her young company involving them in all aspects of the production. Children take center stage – dancing, acting, directing, and will perform works from its quirky, cutting edge repertory.  Based in Providence, RI for children ages 8 to 18, JUMP! Is a collaborative dance company founded in 1999 by Artistic Director Mary Paula Hunter with a mission to encourage and instruct young local artists in creating and performing original choreography.

At 5pm, Cadence Collaborative will take the stage and make its debut.    This special performance of contemporary ballet for the Pawtucket Arts Festival 2007 and will be the ‘premier performance’ for this group of artisans to reunite. Cadence Collaborative is an organization devoted to presenting different contemporary ballet and modern choreographers. Most of the choreographers are Rhode Island bred or reside here now – many have performed and presented their work throughout the US. This is a group excited about the creative process of choreographing and eager to inspire others to create works. Performers include Heidi Henderson, Danielle Genest, Colleen Cavanaugh, Eva Marie Pacheco, and Michael Bolger. Gallery Hours: M-F, 9am – 3pm. Admission is free, but donations of new or pre-owned art supplies in good, usable condition are much appreciated! Among the artists represented will be Pamela White Murphy, Johl DeLorey , Karin Knapik and Laura O. Cenedella. (note: artist, Laura O. Cenedella, painted the Blackstone Canoe Trail canoe with funding from the  City of Patwucket Arts Grant Funding. That canoe is displayed at Slater Park’s Daggett Farm, and was selected to be included in the next AmericanArtParade publication (noted for Trail of Painted Ponies).

Call for Entries – PAC Members Exhibit – 10x10x10
…..to open in October and run through the holidays. Any medium, but all entries must be: 10×10″ (if 2 dimensional), including the frame, if framed. EXACTLY 10x10x10″ (if 3 dimensional EXACTLY 10″ (in diameter, if round!) EXACTLY means not under, or over, 10x10x10″! Limit: 3 pieces! Everything will be for sale for $150 with the usual 30% commission to PAC. This will be a wonderful fundraiser for PAC, and a great chance for you to get your work seen (and bought) by the throngs who will want to see this show. Please join in committing to creating a 10x10x10″ piece for the show (limit 3).
