Durga Krishnana –Veena Exponent Gauri Shankar- Mrudangam

Veena is the oldest of all the Indian musical string instruments. The origin of Veena can be traced to the Vedic period. This instrument allows all the delicate quartertones and the subtle nuances to be played with accuracy. Durga Krishnan is New England’s much sought after Veena artist and a beloved Teacher, and that is her best introduction. Whether giving lessons on the Veena to her students or enthralling the audience with her performance at community events, her passion for the instrument or her love for music is unquestionable. Durga Krishnan earned her Sangeet Vidwan (Scholar of Music) degree from the Carnatic Music College in Chennai. Subsequently, she learned Veena from the legendary Veena Maestro Dr. Chitti Babu. Durga has been teaching Veena in the Boston area since 1978. She works closely with the local area Bharat Natyam dance teachers, composing and performing music for dance. She has also been performing fusion concerts with Marc Rosie who is a professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Durga Krishnan, a faculty member at the Waltham, Mass.- based LearnQuest Academy of Music, is one of the 12 member strong organizing committee that has organized three day music conferences in Boston for the past two years.Admission Free – Donations welcome
