EMERGING ARTISTS: A STUDENT SHOW OPENING
The Portsmouth Arts Guild is holding its “Emerging Artists: A Student Show” opening reception Friday, April 4, from 6 to 8pm. Artwork by area high school students will be displayed. Participating schools include: St. George’s, Dept. Head is Michael Hansel; Portsmouth Abbey, Dept. Head is Colleen Dolan Sanchez; Portsmouth High School, Dept. Head is Kristin Heynen; Middletown High School, Dept. Head is Chris Savastano; and Tiverton High School, Dept. Head is Susan Lynch. The artwork for this show is chosen by the art teachers as the strongest in a variety of media including: 3D, drawing, photography, and painting.
Entertainment will be provided by local young band Sidewinder. Formed in 2007, they have been opening for premier bands throughout Aquidneck Island and Bristol. Band members are Elias Wheeler from Portsmouth High School, Zig Coffey from Bishop Stang, and Chris Vaillancourt from the R.I. Met School. They will be playing from 7 to 8pm. In addition, new work from the following Portsmouth Arts Guild resident artists will be on display: Wanda Perkowska Coderre, Anne Winthrop Cordin, John Forasté, Mary Ann Martin, Martha MacNaught, Carol Gates, Rita Heymann, Libby Gilpatric, Carol Lynn Hall, Jerry Landay, Toni Petersen, Jane Renwick, Lenny Rumpler, and John Tolley.
The show is open from April 3 to 27. Gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday, from 1 to 5pm. Free and open to the public. Handicap accessible.
