THE RHODE ISLAND WRITERS’ CIRCLE NATIONAL POETRY CONTEST

POETRY COMPETITION
Contest open to residents of the United States and Canada.

DEADLINE: December 29, 2008.  Accepting submissions now.

  
RULES: Poems must be unpublished.

LENGTH: 5 pages of poetry

STYLE:  Open: free or formal verse

JUDGES:  Poems are judged by an independent group of writers and poets. Final judge:  Patricia Fargnoli, New Hampshire Poet Laureate.

AWARDS:  First, second, and artistic merit awards.

                      

First Place:  $200.  Second Place: $150. First and second place winners receive cash awards, staged readings, and are published in the RI Writers’ Circle Anthology.  A number of other poems will be recognized for artistic merit and may become eligible for staged readings.

HOW TO ENTER: You may submit no more than 5 pages of poetry.  Name, address, phone, and e-mail should appear on the title page of each poem.  Include business-size SASE and separate cover sheet listing poems submitted and author’s contact information. No online submissions.  Poetry must be typed or word processed. 

ENTRY FEE:  $10.00 administrative fee. Check or money order should be payable to The Writers’ Circle, Inc.  Do not send cash.

RETURNS: If desired, send SASE for return of poems. Submissions sent without proper envelope and postage will not be returned.
