Call For Entries: 1st Annual RI Self-Published Author
Fair< http://pplprograms.blogspot.com/2009/01/call-for-entries-1st-annual-ri-self.html>
*Author Application Deadline:* *Friday, February 6, 2009*
www.provlib.org Fair Date: Sunday, March 1, 2009, 2:00-4:30 PM (Central Library, 150 Empire
Street, Providence 02903)
Intended to highlight and contextualize the growing trend of
self-publishing, this fair will showcase the diversity and range of Rhode
Island’s local authors who live and work among us. Held at the Central
Library, the fair will group authors by genre at shared tables. Authors will
display their work and informally discuss publishing trends, methods, and
the pleasure they take in writing. Visitors will have opportunities to
peruse new literature, purchase books, ask questions, and request
signatures. A small portion (10%) of book sales will be donated to
Providence Public Library to offset the cost of the fair.
Rhode Island authors who have self published a fiction or non-fiction novel
within the last three years are encouraged to apply by mailing or
hand-delivering a review copy of their most recent book along with reviews,
letters of reference, and publicity for that book. Applications must also
contain a cover letter, which includes the author’s contact information and
library card number. Review copies will not be returned. *Deadline: Friday,
February 6, 2009*.

right to hand-select fair participants; space is limited. Those whose are
not selected may reapply next year.
*2.) Residency & Book Requirements*
Each author must be a Rhode Island resident and novels must be self-
published works of fiction or non- fiction published between January 2005
and January 2009. Textbooks, manuals, and poetry will not be accepted at
this time.
*3.) Deadline & Materials*

*4.) Commitment*
By applying, you, the author, are committing to being present on the day of
the fair for the full duration, and agreeing to occupy a shared table, where
you will answer questions and sell your own books independently–no more
than 3 titles per author. You are also agreeing to bring your own materials
for display and selling (ex.: manual credit card slider, extra cash for
making change,
calculator, pens/pencils etc.). The library will not be responsible for book
sales or book sale materials. Prices will be set by you, the author, but all
authors agree to donate a portion of book sales to the Library (10%) to
offset the cost of the fair and for next year’s fair.
*5.) Transport/Setup*
You, the author (and/or your helpers) must be able to transport your
materials physically to and from the Library between 1:00 and 1:45pm on the
day of the fair, which is a Sunday afternoon; no advance drop-offs can be
accommodated. The fair will end at 4:00pm, giving you 1 full hour to break
down your displays before the Library closes at 5:00pm.
*6.) Parking*
Street parking is free on Sundays, but the Library cannot guarantee or hold
any parking spaces for participants. The fair has elevator access, but
participants will still need a wheeling cart, hand truck, and/or helpers to
transport materials to and from the fair area. The Library will provide a
table and chairs for participants but cannot provide moving or display
materials or setup assistance.
We look forward to reviewing you applications and inviting you to
participate in our first annual self-published author fair.
