Fire & Ice Studio – 545 Pawtucket Avenue
…..Suite 113 – offers private and group work – shops at the studio to
create a permanent work of art. We offer a number of ongoing workshops at our
studio as well as our fabulous “Family Hands” workshop. When you participate in
one of our workshops you get to design what you would like to make and do
the set up for the etched design. We take individuals as well as school
groups and other special group workshops. Bottle Workshops: Go green with us and
reuse recycled wine bottles! We have several different workshops for bottles,
pick the one that works for you or come to all of them one at a time. These
are two-day workshops. Drinkware: In this workshop you get four bottles to
make a set of mugs, 8 or 16oz glasses, and see how the process works while I
cut to your measurement with the circular saw, then belt sand the edge smooth.
You can then pick out a design (or bring your own to use) and learn how to
mask off and cut the image out to be ready to sandblast. I do the sand
blasting and you get to pick up your finished set of drink ware when they are
done.
Vase Workshop: This workshop provides you with four wine bottles for you to
design as vases. You can do a straight cut or an angle. Using the different
shapes of the bottles as well as different cutting angles makes for a great
assortment of vase shapes that we’ll cut and belt sand after you decide what
you want. You can leave these plain or set up a design for etching into the
vase as described above. Hurricane Lamp: The process is as described above;
however this workshop entails cutting hock bottles to create the hurricane
portion and the smaller burgundy bottle bottoms as the candleholder that fits
underneath. Each participant may make two hurricane lamps, using four bottles.
Can be etched with design as described above. Windchimes: This workshop will
combine a number of glass and other parts and pieces. We will combine bottle
tops, round slices of a bottle, flat glass or more bottle bits that can be cut
and drilled into attractive shapes and hung as wind chimes. It’s a
creative process! Lightcatcher Workshop: In this one-day workshop in late summer
through the winter Holidays, you can make light-catchers/ornaments for Holiday
gifts and decoration. You will get to make two light-catchers. This is our
most reasonably priced workshop. SCHOOL AND SPECIAL GROUP WORKSHOPS: We can
do a glass tabletop divided into the number of children involved in the
project so that each child gets to design a square with their own design. A
theme may be picked that all do their art around. Then you get the tabletop to
auction off to the parents to raise funds for your school or group’s art
department! This workshop can be done in the school environment as long as you
can store the glass safely, then I blast it at my studio and use one of my
display bases for the auction. It’s a win-win- win! * -Grade 4 and up only-
