On a poetry month tour, a group of poet laureates visited 5T to enjoy Jonathan Bonner‘s POOMS — one-syllable poems that generate beautiful, playful, affordable art.  We were honored to meet them.  Also, Martina Windels wrote about Bonner’s show for the current East Side Monthly here.

5T GalleryLaphamWithout words, Scott Lapham‘s lush photographs and sculptural “snapshots” offer their own kind of poetry about our waterfronts today (at right).

Only two more weeks to see these shows (closing May 16).  The gallery is open Wednesdays – Sundays, 12-6pm.

Opening Friday, May 22 (reception 6-8pm)

Next, we explore that delicious intersection of books and art objects.  Among other things 5T is co-publishing two limited-edition books for this show:

The Diary Project by Jessica Rosner

RosnerIn 1986, this artist’s diary disappeared.  14 years later a stranger returned it to her and she embarked on a project to transform each of the 72 pages into a new drawing.  Here, for the first time, all 72 drawings are reproduced in a full-color book.  Printed in a signed, limited edition of 100, each book has unique hand-written entries added by the artist.  The original set of drawings, as well as hand-embellished fine reproductions, will also be available.

Monday Morning, Going to Work by William Schaff

bySchaffKnown for his album cover art and elaborate zines (and the high number of tattoos made from his drawings), Schaff compiles three new stories into this full-color 92-page book.  A limited edition of five books will be available, each with a unique, frame-able full-color drawings as a book-cover.  The original drawings and fine reproductions of individual sequences will also be available.
