Contemporary Theater Company announces auditions

The Contemporary Theater Company announces auditions for its first two productions of 2011: the 6th annual 24-Hour Play Festival and “Romeo and Juliet.” The auditions will be held concurrently on Dec. 1 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the South Kingstown High School Auditorium.

The 24-Hour Play Festival is the company’s signature event and will be held Jan. 8 at the South Kingstown High School Auditorium. This unique event gives six writers, six directors, and 24 actors one day to create and present an original lineup of six short plays. The performance at 8 p.m. is open to the public.

The upcoming auditions are to select between five and eight first-time participants to join veterans in the ensemble. Actors should prepare a brief comedic monologue.

The company is also accepting applications to write or direct a show and looking for technical crew. As tradition, this is an all-volunteer production.

“Romeo and Juliet” will show at The Towers in Narragansett from Feb. 18 to Feb. 26. This production features only four performers – one actress and three actors – without cutting a single entrance or scene.

Performers with uncommon versatility, significant Shakespeare experience and exceptional creativity are sought for this demanding rehearsal process and unforgettable show. Actors should prepare two contrasting Shakespearian monologues of six to 12 lines each. Callbacks will be held within two weeks of the auditions and performers will be compensated for their time.

Performers may audition for either or both productions, but must prepare a unique monologue for each audition. The auditorium is located at 215 Columbia St., Wakefield, R.I.
