The 2011 BarPlays Newport Festival is looking for actors available to perform the first two weeks of February in a variety of short plays that will be performed in bars.

Auditions will be held:

Sunday, December 12, 2010 4pm to 7pm

Salve Regina Megley Black Box Antone Academic Center (corner Leroy and Lawrence Streets Newport, RI

Prepared monologues are not needed. Sides will be provided at the time of audition.

What to expect from the BarPlays Newport Festival:

3 performances per play, at least two different venues
Minimal tech. Very minimal tech.
Extremely close proximity to audience.
Performing in bar that is fully operating as a bar during your performance. This means that patrons may be ordering drinks, wait staff may be delivering food and there may be a certain number of folks in the room that just came out to the bar unaware that it is being used as a theater space. That said, during the BarPlays Providence Festival last summer, these factors did not cause any real major problems. The actors who were part of BarPlays Providence found it to be an exciting, fun and rewarding experience.
NO MONEY

Also being sought for BarPlays Newport are short (10-20 minutes) acts to supplement the plays. Story-tellers, improvisationalists, mentalists, and similar performers are encouraged to contact us.
