Summer writing courses are open for enrollment at Frequency Providence!

Spend some time this summer expanding your writing– and reading, talking
about the writing process, and getting feedback from other writers… (…we wish we
could add “in a hammock, whilst drinking lemonade” but so far no one has lent us
the use of his forest, so these classes will take placehere– though feel free to
bring your own Del’s.)

Open Fiction Workshop

In this
four-week course, you’ll be introduced to techniques from a variety of
practices, such as divination, method acting, and meditation, to broaden your
ideas about what fiction is and how it can be written. We’ll explore what it
means to see as writers so that we can transform the people, objects, and events
of everyday life into the fiction we write. We’ll also read and discuss several
stories by contemporary authors to learn how they’ve approached plot, character,
and narration. Weekly discussions of your writing will offer feedback and fresh
perspectives. Writers of any genre and ability are invited.

Tuesdays,
6:30 – 9:00 pm; July 10 – July 31

Open Poetry
Workshop

In this course students will undertake a study of one
contemporary poet and a poet who has influenced his/her work. Students will come
to read as artists by considering techniques to appropriate for their own poems,
exploring authentic and structured rhythms, movement and sounds. Each meeting
will include in class writing and the analysis of students’ original
poems.

Wednesdays, 6:30 – 9:00 pm; July 11 – August 1
