Help Wanted: Chorus of Westerly

The Chorus of Westerly seeks a dynamic, energetic, flexible, and hardworking individual to join the Chorus team as a part-time Facility Manager. Reporting to the Executive Director of the Chorus of Westerly, the Facility Manager is charged with helping the Chorus maintain the historic George Kent Performance Hall, tending to Kent Hall’s exterior and grounds, helping the Chorus set-up for concerts, rehearsals, and special events (both at Kent Hall and off-site), helping with production of Summer Pops in Wilcox Park, coordinating the Chorus’s facility related supplies, and handling other micellaneous jobs as required. The position is a part-time hourly position (that is not benefits eligible) that will average about 5 to 9 hours a week (varies depending on event schedule) with more required and available hours prior to Chorus of Westerly regular season events.

Primary duties of the Facility Manager include:

Regular minor interior building maintenance including but not limited to: light plumbing repairs, basic carpentry work, small electrical work (not requiring permit), paint touch-ups, riser set-up/repair/touch-ups, door adjustments, drywall patching, wood trim work, and other similar smaller scale projects as needed or requested.
Coordinate, with Executive Director, outside contractors or extra support staff as needed for larger scale projects.
Weekly exterior building maintenance including but not limited to debris removal, temporary signage installation and removal, seasonal decorations, door hardware adjustments, building inspections, paint touch-ups, weed removal and trimming, pick-up of trash left on grounds, light exterior painting.
Snow and ice removal of all walkways, stairways, and other paved areas on and around performance hall during and after winter storms; coordination and direction of extra or substitute help for extensive storms with larger snow/ice removal projects or if manager cannot get to hall to carry out duties. Coordination of any plowing (if needed).
Weekly meeting with Executive Director.
Inventory and coordinate all Kent Hall facility supplies, including (but not limited to) lighting, winter supplies, paint.
Inventory, track, and coordinate us of all Chorus/Kent Hall technical equipment (A/V/S).
Learn and be able to operate Kent Hall’s HVACs systems and to troubleshoot minor HVAC problems. Coordinate, with Executive Director’s guidance, HVAC service calls more major problems (working with HVAC company).
Provide event set-up support for Chorus related events and projects as scheduled with the Executive Director.
Work with and lead teams of facilities and event volunteers as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications
- 1 to 3 years of maintenance experience working or volunteering in a performing arts facility or comparable space.
- A working knowledge and moderate skill level in areas of plumbing, painting, electric work, HVAC, carpentry, AV
- Ability and availability to work weekends and nights for Chorus events as needed; flexibility to come in on short notice.
- Must be available to work extra hours the week before and weekend of all major Chorus events.
- Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel (for inventory and tracking work).
- Experience managing others at special events, including teenagers, adults, paid staff, and/or volunteers
- Excellent communication and “people skills”
- Must have valid driver’s license and ability to lift 50-75 lbs.
- Positive recommendations from previous employers or references.

The ideal candidate will also have worked or volunteered in a performing arts environment on concerts, special events, or other comparable activities.

Compensation
This is a part-time, hourly position. Number of hours per week depends on event schedule and performance hall needs. Typical week will have an estimated 5 to 9 hours of work (varies, not guaranteed). More hours of work will be required and available around Chorus of Westerly events (see schedule). Pay rate is $17-$20 per hour depending on experience. This position is not benefits eligible.
