Terms: This is a part time position predicated on school-based need. Hours of work vary but are likely to occur between 2pm to 6pm. Sessions generally run 6-10 weeks in the Fall, Winter and Spring. This position is ideal for working artists looking for extra income. Candidates that are available M-Th afternoons will be given preference.

Overview: The RiverzEdge Mobile Studio brings challenging, project-based youth programs into low-income schools and community centers throughout the state. Progressive art and academic skills building is achieved through well designed curricula that incorporate critical thinking and problem solving with literacy- and STEAM-enriched art making. Teaching artists are responsible for delivering high-quality real world arts learning in a safe, fun, and highly engaged environment.

Education: BA/BFA degree in the arts preferred, with formal or informal teacher training. Practicing artists encouraged to apply.

Art Skills:  Candidate should possess a thorough knowledge of at least several artistic practices and disciplines.  Candidate will be expected to come in with a working knowledge of observational, figurative and technical skills of drawing and painting, as well as the ability to adapt to participants’ specific creative interests and experimentation. Knowledge of art history is preferred, as well as flexibility with a variety of mediums and materials.

Required Abilities & Experience:
• Demonstrated ability to manage a classroom while maintaining a positive and fun atmosphere;
• Experience working with youth in an urban environment, preferably within a school-based setting;
• Able to adeptly and efficiently create and/or follow multi series curricula and lesson plans;
• Flexible thinker, able to work with a wide variety of people from different cultures and sectors;
• Ability to multi-task—to empower and engage youth participants while delivering sophisticated art and academic skills development;
• Able to work independently and produce high quality results while accepting supervision and working in conjunction with a diverse staff; and
Familiarity with RI Program Quality Assessment Tool (RIPQA).

Supervision:  This position is supervised directly by the Mobile Studio Director.

Performance:  Performance of each duty evaluated against the above requirements. The Mobile Studio Director will complete at-random observations and evaluations, and will provide weekly support. Teaching artists will be required to participate in professional development/trainings at the beginning of each school semester (2x/year).

Overview: This is a part-time leadership position responsible for developing, overseeing, delivering and evaluating RiverzEdge Art Project’s Mobile Studio series, including primary partner communications and the hiring and management of Mobile Studio teaching artists. The Mobile Studio takes RiverzEdge’s award winning cutting edge arts programs off-site to afterschool programs, community centers and social service agencies across the state. High quality process oriented programs help young people learn to think, see and do as artists with real world tools and goals in engaging, fun, mentoring based learning environments. Mobile Studio programs are currently running in Newport, North Kingstown, West Warwick, Cranston, Providence, Pawtucket and Woonsocket. Seasoned cultural creatives encouraged to apply.

Education: BA/BFA degree in the arts, preferably painting, drawing or printmaking and a strong portfolio. Formal or informal teacher training required along with experience training and managing others. Must possess thorough knowledge of educational challenges and opportunities in RI.

Art Skills:  Candidate should possess a thorough knowledge of many different artistic practices and disciplines and understand the power of high quality student centered art education to change lives. Candidate should come in with a working knowledge of observational, figurative and technical skills of drawing and painting, as well as the ability to adapt to participants’ specific creative interests and experimentation. Knowledge of art history is preferred along with a basic knowledge of documentation, portfolio development and assessment rubrics.

Educational Experience: Experience within urban school-based settings strongly preferred. Demonstrated track record of measurable success required. Must be able to adeptly and efficiently create lesson plans and design short and long-term projects and programs. Must be flexible, able to work with a wide variety of people from different cultures and sectors, able to multi-task, empower and engage teaching artists and youth participants in art and skills development, accept supervision and work with other staff.

Special: Photoshop knowledge a plus. Experience with higher education opportunities useful.

Hours: This is a part time position with strong potential for expansion. Hours of work are negotiable but likely to include Monday through Thursday, 2pm to 6pm (Afterschool hours).
