Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), the country’s preeminent art and design school, located in historic Providence, RI, is seeking a Department Administrative Coordinator to join its Apparel Design Department.

Reporting to Department Head, the Department Administrative Coordinator performs a variety of clerical and routine administrative duties in support of the department head and faculty, including but not limited to: processing academic forms and documents; organizing calendars; updating and maintaining database records and paper files; ordering office and event supplies; and coordinating and monitoring departmental expenses. Serves as the initial point of contact for all departmental relations, both internal and external. Coordinates logistics for department events throughout the year, including but not limited to the “Collection” Fashion Show, NYC Fieldtrip, and Crit/Jury. The Coordinator is instrumental in supporting all Apparel events.

Qualifications:  Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.  A minimum of three to five years administrative support experience required with experience working in an academic environment preferred.  Experience and knowledge of PC and/or Apple computers used in office administration required; experience and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database software a must. Demonstrated experience in planning and/or coordinating complex meetings or events. Ability to adapt to new software and to learn Colleague for accessing student transcripts, student information and registration as well as learn Datatel for budget monitoring. Budget tracking experience desired. Proven problem solver with resourceful approach; demonstrated initiative, excellent interpersonal skills; attention to detail; basic math skills; strong oral and excellent written communication skills; ability to multitask; and work in a fast paced environment.
