South Carolina Aquarium announces call for entries FOR FALL 2006 ART EXHIBITION: ARTISTIC VISIONS: UNDER THE SEAArtists Will Be Selected to Exhibit Art at the Aquarium Sept. 21, 2006 -Nov. 30, 2006Charleston, SC – June 22, 2006 – The South Carolina Aquarium is excited to announce its fall art show: Artistic Visions: Under the Sea. Scheduled for Sept. 21 through Nov. 30, the show will include artwork from artists around the country that reflect the beauty and diversity of sea life and sea habitats. The number of pieces of artwork selected for the show will depend on the range and size of submissions. We hope to be able to display a minimum of 15 pieces of artwork. Only one piece of artwork per artist can be selected but artists may submit images of three pieces of art for consideration. Artwork will be selected for the show by a group of local gallery owners and museum representatives.
The theme of this year’s art show echoes the Aquarium’s fall 2006 focus on conservation of both land and ocean habitats, in keeping with the Aquarium’s mission to inspire conservation by excelling in education and in the care, display and study of aquatic life. Displayed artwork will be seen by more than 25,000 visitors and 5,000 schoolchildren during the duration of the show. To apply, artists must complete and submit an official application mailed to the South Carolina Aquarium, Attn: Public Relations, 100 Aquarium Wharf, Charleston, SC 29401, postmarked no later than August 14, 2006.
