Works on paper and canvas.

Through the exploration of their media, both Ivan Goodman and Malika

Rubin-Davis push the adventitious nature of creating visual imagery.

Their work remains interesting as neither claims mastery and are both

boldly exploring the immeasurable landscape of their media; the one

rediscovering magic of works on paper and the other inventing a

personal language for the relatively new combination of knitting and

oil on canvas. Both their processes allow for a conversation between

the materials, the artist and the subconscious. This last element

comes into play both in the uncontrolled aspects of their works and in

the viewers’ interpretations.

The Pawtucket Arts Collaborative will host three events for the annual multicultural exhibit entitled “Crossing Borders: Redefining the Dream” featuring fourteen artists and two architectural firms.  The goal of the project is to promote civic engagement and dialog on the theme of immigration.
Exhibit runs from May 11 to June 21, 2008 at the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative Gallery, Both the gallery and the theatre are located at 175 Main Street, Pawtucket, RI in the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center 175 Main Street, Pawtucket, RI.
Featured Artists are Pablo Alvarez, German Betzalel Ortiz Cadena, John Clark, Iris Donnelly, Donald Gerola, Ana Flores, Ann Johansson, Bruce Kaplan, Eric Owen Moss Architects, Clare Nesdall, Agnes Novak, Anthony Osorio, Dusan Petran, Helena M. Stockar, and Tsao & McKown Architects.
The exhibit Crossing Borders: Redefining the Dream is presented in the belief that painters, photographers, sculptors, puppeteers, guitar makers, lace makers, and architects can promote civic discourse.  Some of the images and objects created by these artists reflect directly on the experience of leaving one’s home, crossing a border, and settling in a new place.  A percentage of the sale proceeds will benefit The Latina Leadership Institute.
This exhibit is part of a larger collaborative project developed jointly by the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative and Hera Gallery www.heragallery.org.
The Gallery is open 7 days a week from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center, 175 Main Street, Pawtucket, RI, 401-724-2200.
Founded in October, 2000, the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative is dedicated to supporting, promoting, and developing the highest level of the arts for the community and its artists.  PAC does this by creating awareness, education, and involvement through its members. www.pawtucketartscollaborative.org.
