Salary: Based on experience and skill set
The Bridge to Democracy Afterschool Program at the Learning Community Charter School is a school based, 21st Century Community Learning Center funded program. We offer students quality programming to maximize creative abilities, critical thinking, self-confidence, student voice and skill building through experience with a variety of enrichment activities and programs appropriate to our students age in grades 3-6.
Currently the Bridge to Democracy program is seeking an instructor with experience teaching sewing to elementary/middle school youth. The objective of the afterschool course is for students to practice and learn sewing skills and their application. The expectation is that students will spend most of the time sewing, either sewing clothing back together or making pillows, and other items from scratch. Students should learn different stitching techniques and employ them in different projects. At the end of the program students are expected to have sewn several different pieces and will hold an appropriately priced sale at the school for other students, parents, and community members.
Description of Sewing Program:
• Runs 2-3 times per week for an hour and a half
• Appropriate and adaptable for 3rd-6th graders
• Develops students comfort with sewing and different techniques for sewing
Description of Sewing Provider:
• Prepare engaging, fun and creative sewing activities
• Develops students confidence in sewing
• Presents students with their own work in the field
• Enjoys working with elementary/middle school youth
Required Qualifications:
• Strong desire to work with middle/elementary youth
• 2 years experience with middle/elementary students
•experience instructing sewing
• Proven effective classroom and materials management in a hands-on setting.
The Sewing program will operate 2-3 times a week.
Salary:The position is paid through a W-9 contract form and bi-weekly invoicing. An hourly wage is based on experience and skill set. There is separate funding for materials and planning.
Jewelry Instructor

Currently the Bridge to Democracy program is seeking a jewelry maker to run a course on jewelry making. The objective of the afterschool course is for students to practice and learn design techniques and experiment with different mediums for making jewelry. The expectation is that students will spend most of the time designing and producing rings, necklaces, bracelets and other jewelry. At the end of the program students are expected to have made several different pieces and hold an appropriately priced sale at the school for other students, parents, and community members.

Poetry/Lyric Writing Instructor

We offer students quality programming to maximize creative abilities, critical thinking, self-confidence, student voice and skill building through experience with a variety of enrichment activities and programs appropriate to our students age in grades 3-6.
Currently the Bridge to Democracy program is seeking an experienced individual or company to host a poetry/lyric writing class. The desired objective of the afterschool course is to engage students in creative thought and expression. Students should feel free to speak their minds and share their thoughts while learning about poetic forms and styles, meter, delivery, and matching lyrics to music. At the end of the course students will have written a poem or song and will have attached a musical or visual piece of art; including: paintings, slide shows, and sculptures.
Description of Poetry Program:
• Runs 2-3 times per week for an hour and a half
• Appropriate and adaptable for 3rd-6th graders
• Covers poetic forms (differences, emphasize, content, flow)
• Emphasizes final product with attention to delivery
Description of Science Experiment Provider:
• Works with youth to develop their understanding of poetic forms
• Prepares engaging and challenging activities to introduce and develop students awareness of poetry and the written word in society
• Develops students confidence in writing abilities
• Develops connection between poetry/lyrics and music or visual representations through activities and games
• Provide examples of poetic forms
Required Qualifications:
• Strong desire to work with middle/elementary youth
• 2 years experience with middle/elementary students
• Knowledge if elementary/middle school literacy standards
• 2 years experience instructing poetry
• Proven effective classroom and materials management in a hands-on setting.
The poetry/lyrics program will operate 2-3 times a week.
