Folk & World Music events in Providnce and Lowell, Friday, July 27, Saturday, July 28th and Sunday, July 29th!

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Tonight’s (Friday, July 27) City’s concert at Waterplace Park presents the Triple Decker, the story of one of RI’s famous architectural features. The piece, created by Mark Levitt, features world music with RI musicians, all immigrants from various parts of the world, including Armenia, Cape Verde, Cambodia, Ireland, the Dominican Republic and Mali. It is an extremely interesting piece, starts at 7PM and lasts a bit over an hour. It is a FREE event!

And, speaking of world music, The Lowell Folk Festival, largest fre folk festival in our region, starts tonight, July 27th; the festival has several stages with well established musicians from all over the world. It continues all day tomorrow Saturday, July 28th (with a dance in the evening) and Sunday, July 29th. It is a FREE festival!!!!!! And only a bit over an hour from Providence. The city of Lowell is a national park and has lots of parking lots.

For more information:

ALSO PLEASE NOTE, the Providence Wholebellies are playing tomorrow evening, July 28th,  starting at 7PM at the Mediator! After a long absence, the wild folk music group is inviting everyone to attend tomorrow’s dance. There is a kitchen at the Mediator, so, if you’d like to, bring some nibbles and something to drink (you’ll need it after dancing to a couple of tunes!)

This is an all ages event, the Providence Wholebellies love to see kids dancing to the music.

Where: Mediator, 50 Rounds Avenue, Providence 02907 (Google for directions, 10 minutes from downtown Providence)

Fee: $5 donation (more if you can afford it!); kids free
