Call to Artists - multi-media installation

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

http://www.arts.ri.gov/images/fellow05/JorJU.JPGAloha,Yes it is that time of year: when all the energy starts bursting forth from those who wear the mantle of “Artist.”But this year is different. This year is a special week-long series, at AS220 and Perishable Theatre, examining the topic of Justice. What does it mean here in America? What about this “exporting democracy” and “fighting for freedom” business? What about leading the world in incarceration rates? Immigration? Health Care? Employment? Corporations? Greek philosophers??! What comes to mind behind the word?Maybe its just me, but “contradiction” has fueled my creativity for quite some time. Power Posse Productions will be providing us with giant folding walls to place out on Empire Street. This exhibit will form the exterior ambiance for over a dozen inside events… and perhaps catch the eye of a certain crowd of folks on the corner going to a performance of “Paris By Night.” If you have an idea for a multi-media installation, please step up and let me know. If you would like materials related to prisons, both DARE and Family Life Center are more than willing to cooperate. Deadline for entries is April 15th. Please contact me with proposed pieces (jpeg or in person)

We will begin collecting materials on April 1st, at Direct Action for Rights and Equality, 340 Lockwood St. Feel free to forward this to any artists or art programs. and print/post this flyer.
