USC Annenberg/Getty Arts Journalism Program Accepting Applications

The University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and the Getty Foundation have announced the 8th annual USC Annenberg/Getty Arts Journalism Fellowship, November 1-22, 2009.

The fellowship is a three-week education experience for six arts, culture, and entertainment editors, producers, and writers from online, print, radio, and television. Typically one to two of the fellows come from outside the United States. Journalists who cover the visual and performing arts, architecture, literature, and pop culture are welcome to apply. Staff, freelancers, and self-employed Web journalists are also encouraged to apply.

Seeking Special Events Intern - Trinity Rep

Reports to: Manager of Advertising and PR
Trinity Repertory Company seeks enthusiastic intern to provide assistance with special
event coordination. This is an unpaid internship. Letters of recommendation and
signatures for course credit evaluation can be provided as necessary, commensurate
with performance.
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
The External Relations Department of Trinity Repertory Company seeks a Special
Event Intern effective immediately through August 29, 2009 to assist with the planning
and execution of Savor Providence, its annual summer benefit. Savor Providence is a
new twist on the restaurant tasting event, where patrons purchase books of “tastes”
from Trinity Rep and can redeem those “tastes” at any of the participating restaurants
for pre-determined food and beverage items.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist Advertising and Publicity Manager in pitching the event to potential
restaurant participants
• Obtain and track relevant paperwork for all participants
• Mailing and dropping off promotional literature
• Assist with the coordination of volunteers for event staffing purposes
• Be available the day of the event (8/29/09 from 11A-3P) to help staff the event
• Other various administrative tasks as needed
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of local restaurant scene
a plus. Must be either a graduate of or currently enrolled in college. Must be available
for 8-10 hours a week, M-F from 9a-5p.

MacColl Johnson Fellowship - Attention RI Writers

Attention writers: Apply for a $25,000 MacColl Johnson Fellowship 

The Robert and Margaret MacColl Johnson Fellowship Fund provides up to three $25,000 artist fellowships each year, rotating among composers, writers, and visual artists on a three-year cycle.

The 2009 fellowships are for emerging and mid-career writers. 

MacColl Johnson Fellowships enable Rhode Island artists to concentrate time on the creative process, explore personal and professional development, and expand their bodies of work. The fellowships honor and enhance public recognition of local artists producing work of high aesthetic quality.

Company Overview
Paul Clancy is a commercial and fine art photographer, located in downtown Providence, with over 25 years of professional experience. He is currently an artist-in-residence at AS220 and a former photo educator at Broad Street Studio.  Clancy’s work historically has been with the use of traditional film photography, Polaroid, hand made lenses, and unconventional self discovered techniques in the darkroom. Evolving these techniques and tools to accommodate his work in digital photography is his current focus. His unconventional photographs, coupled with architectural fragments of buildings of Providence, has earned him a reputation as archivist whose latest installation work is more akin to photo-archaeology. His commercial work has included national and international accounts such as Audi, Polaroid, Vail-Keystone, Sylvania, Levis, Blue Cross, Nature’s Way and Rockport. His photography has been published in PDN, Graphis, Archive, and Art Scope magazines.
 

Job Description
Intern will be responsible for assisting photographer on commercial shoots, and fine art projects, creating and maintenance of an archiving system for present and a long history of imagery, establishing a strong digital footprint for the web, post production of photo shoots in Lightroom and Photoshop. A curiosity and passion for historical film photo techniques and being part of the development of how they can translate digitally is important. 
The student will come away from the internship with a strong understanding of how to run a commercial photo business, balanced with showing fine art work, with a depth of knowledge in traditional film and digital photo techniques.
 

Requirements / Qualifications
Must have a curious mind and passion for all facets of photography coupled with an interest in new ways of looking at things. Possess a solid foundation of basic photography skills, with special emphasis on digital photography. Must be proficient in Lightroom, Photoshop, Mac OS, and web savvy. Capable of design and implementation of an archiving system. Ownership of your own laptop and love of Providence architecture a plus. Inventive by nature, good with fabrication and working with your hands.
