Education Roster

About RISCA's Education Roster

RISCA's Education Roster is a list of Rhode Island teaching artists who have been reviewed by public panels both for their artistic quality and their ability to work in educational settings. Artists are listed by discipline and are recommended for participation in Project Grants in Education (PGE). The Roster is also widely used as public resource by educational sites and individuals. Artists can renew their listings annually, provided they are active professionally as teaching artists. Those working in schools are also asked to complete a yearly BCI background check in accordance with Rhode Island law.

Coming soon! RISCA's Education Roster will be part of New England Foundation of the Arts' CreativeGround website, which will provide even broader opportunities for RI Teaching Artists regionally. For more information on this move, please contact Daniel Kahn at Daniel Kahn or 401-222-1146.

APPLICATION: Applications from artists wishing to join the Roster are accepted on or before April 1 and October 1 of each calendar year.

Artists seeking to apply for the roster will register and apply online at http://www.arts.ri.gov/ind-apply.  Click on Artist Roster Application once registered.

Successful applicants will demonstrate:

  • Mastery of an artistic discipline
  • Knowledge and expertise in sequential arts instruction
  • Good communication skills
  • Planning and organizational ability
  • Understanding of PK-12 learners

Applicants are required to submit samples of their work to demonstrate mastery of their discipline, as well as examples of curriculum units they have developed. Please contact RISCA's Arts Education Program Assistant Maggie Anderson with questions at lynne.debeer@arts.ri.gov or 401-222-6994 for guidelines and forms.

RHODE ISLAND TEACHING ARTISTS CENTER (RITAC): The Rhode Island Teaching Artists Center was established in 2013 at the Gamm Theatre in Pawtucket, in collaboration with RISCA. Membership in RITAC and listing on RISCA's Education Roster are separate. RITAC is a center which provides programs and opportunities to RI teaching artists, and any teaching artist or supporter of teaching artists is free to become a member. The Education Roster, as described previously, is a juried listing of exemplary RI teaching artists maintained by RISCA.
