[F] Ruth Sharp Sunn spins tales of Rhode Island history into her art as a knitter. A descendent of Thomas Angell, young companion to Roger Williams, Ruth's first stitches were a family legacy passed from her grandmother, who taught the Yankee virtues of practice and perfection, along with knit and purl. A seasoned, career K-12 classroom teacher, Sunn is also experienced in working with advanced adult knitters...having offered inaugural fiber arts at the Blackstone River Theatre's Heritage Arts Studio and having served as the first coordinator of the Community Guilds Studios at Slater Mill. Sunn is available to create and lead knitting programs in schools, museums, and in fiber arts programs. As a traditional artist and teacher, Ruth Sunn can collaborate and design residencies that connect knitting/fiber arts to RI GSE's in the arts and core standards in ELA and math, as well as standards in social studies. Ruth has also served as master artist for the Southern New England Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program, which supports the enduring legacy of the traditional arts.
