Afro-Puerto Rican Music & Dance Lydia has twenty years' experience as a performer and cultural educator/activist in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. She has been recognized as a community asset by the offices of the Governor, Legislators, Mayors etc. She has received awards from the International Gallery of Heritage & Culture na dthe 2014 Ethnic Business & Champion Award from the Latino community. Her work has been highly sought by cultural organiazations and school departments in Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts. Lydia is also craft artist who creates wonderful masks & charismatic character heads which she incorporates into her professional performances, exhibitions and in her role as a teaching artist in New England. As a traditional artist she has received Fellowships from RISCA (2000; Runner up in 1998 & 2010) & the Rhode Island Foundation (2000). At a national level, Lydia has represented New England in the Southern Arts Federation and received the American Tradition Award in 1999 and 2000. She is the director of YORUBA 2, an award-winning traditional music & dance ensemble. She offers solo and residency classes/workshops , along with ensemble groups in school programs as part of integration arts academic development, fostering 21st century leaders.
