RA Fish began the study of American drumset & marching drums in 1962. At Berklee College of Music he studied with Alan Dawson. After moving to New York City in 1973, Mr. Fish began to study global percussion, including Indian tabla, North African/Middle Eastern dumbek (two recordings on Lyrichord discs) and other forms. He has played and recorded with a wide range of jazz, pop & ethnic musicians. In 1998, after returning to RI, he co-founded the Young/Fish School of World Drumming (see also) with Diana Young. Together they have formulated a unique teaching methodology for all populations, including those with special needs. Mr. Fish & Ms. Young collaborated with the RI Phiharmonic and composer/educator Judith Sainte Croix on a piece for RI 2000. In 2002 Mr. Fish received the Fellowship for music composition from RISCA. He is also listed the rosters for the Music School of the RI Philharmonic and VSA of RI for special needs children and youth.
