THEATRICAL CATALYST/ACTOR/ DIRECTOR/ COACH Laurie has acted and directed professionally on stage, film, & TV (winning an Emmy Award) and she joyfully provides hands-on collaboration with students and teachers around classic plays and literature. There is still time to join Laurie in celebrating Shakespeare’s 450th Birth Year (2014) with a program in the fall! Her workshops and classes use improvisation, movement, voice, and imagination to delight learners from 6 - 106 in schools, libraries, hospitals, and other venues. Programs vary from a 2-hour stand-alone to extended residencies with optional PD. She will craft a program and performance to fit your needs. Her book on taking the fear out of teaching Shakespeare is AP Classroom: A Midsummer Night's Dream (Prufrock Press). Laurie taught at St. Andrew’s School for four years, honing her skills in working with a variety of learners, including those for whom English is a second language. Recently she has been teaching home schoolers, has led several multi-voiced readings of King’s “I Have a Dream”, been bringing poetry and spoken word programs to senior residences, and directed productions of Twelfth Night, Antigone and the Roman comedy, Amphitryo. Laurie has provided PD in integrating arts with curricula standards at “Hartford Performs”, presented at the NERA annual conference, and at NYCHEA in New York. She believes students are “turned on by greatness” and speaks about that in PBS’s “A Touch of Greatness”.
