Governor Donald L. Carcieri and the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts once again invite Rhode Island artists to submit work for the Scenes of Rhode Island Exhibit and awards.
Governor and Mrs. Carcieri established the Scenes of Rhode Island Exhibition and Awards to highlight an original one-of-a-kind image of Rhode Island and to promote the artistic talent in the state.
“It is important to have art in our lives reminding us of the diverse beauties of our state, the creativity of our people and the joy we can share in viewing works of art,” Governor Carcieri said. “I encourage all Rhode Island artists to enter this year’s exhibition.” Governor and Mrs. Carcieri select one of the entries as “Best in Show” and two additional works as second and third place winners. Governor Carcieri and Mrs. Carcieri personally fund the prizes including the $1,000 award for the Best in Show piece and the rights to its reproduction. The prize for second place is $250 and third prize is $100. The “Best in Show” winner will become the property of the Governor and Mrs. Carcieri and it will be displayed prominently at the State House throughout the Carcieri Administration. Limited edition posters of the image will be produced and financed personally by the Carcieris, signed and numbered by the artist, and distributed to individuals and organizations at the discretion of Governor and Mrs. Carcieri. The Scenes of Rhode Island Exhibition can be viewed at the Atrium Gallery in the Department of Administration Building on Smith Street in Providence during the months of December, 2009 and January, 2010.
Entries must be two-dimensional, original works of art that in some way depict the Ocean State and that have not been previously entered into the Scenes of Rhode Island Exhibition and Awards, nor have been reproduced or widely shown.
